I purchased this primarily to make baby food for my 9 month old son. I owned another Braun immersion blender for at least 15 years and though it was still running great, I chose to replace it since the immersion attachment on this newer version contains no plastic. It shipped very quickly from Japan, fits a standard American electrical outlet, and needs no voltage converter for operation. It was accompanied by manuals and a thick recipe book that were all in Japanese though. Even though the manual was in Japanese, it contained enough illustrations that operation of the blender and attachments needs no further explanation. At this point I have been using this item heavily for about 6 weeks.Components:
The main powered unit is very solidly built and of high quality. The motor is very strong and while it makes less noise than a regular pitcher type blender, it is loud as are all products of this type. The gear that interfaces the motor with the attachments appears to be made of a very solid resin material and is thickly constructed. It is much sturdier than the same piece on my old Braun (which never broke) and any other branded immersion blenders in the store. The body is constructed of thick plastic and a grippy silicone type material. Areas where the materials join are seamless with the exeption of a small groove where the top piece containing the dial on top meets the main body. This makes for easy cleanup. I tend to splatter pureed baby food all over this thing and the cord during use but cleanup is quick and easy using a clorox wipe. The buttons to release attachments are very simple to use so that removal of attachments is quick and easy.
